CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. — A threat was made toward the 100th anniversary of the Chincoteague Pony Swim, according to town officials.

In a Friday press conference, officials said an online threat was made toward the pony swim and related festivities. Specific details regarding the threat were not released.

“The security of our residents and visitors is always a priority of our pre-planning events, and this year’s anniversary is no exception,” said Mayor Denise Bowden.

The threat is under investigation, and town officials are taking advantage of the resources available to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for residents and visitors.

Bowden’s request: If you see something, say something. Officials ask that you report suspicious activities or suspicious people to the local police department.
