DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – One of the many places impacted by the 2024 Cottonwood tornado is the Cottonwood Volunteer Fire Department.
Today, exactly one year after that deadly tornado came through the Houston County community, the fire department is setting sights on a new building.
Fire Chief Randy Hall said the damage to the department’s old building was extensive, forcing them to store equipment in a local farmer’s barn.
They built a temporary station from which they operate out of now.
Thanks to funding this year, construction on a new fire station will begin.
“Construction should be underway here in the next month or so for our new fire station. It is a new day and for us, it is a fresh start. The storm that day and for several weeks and months, it was rough but it is a new day and we are very blessed,“ Chief Hall said.
