OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) — An area hockey team is taking some time off the ice to give back.
The Omaha Lancers laced up to help the organization Partnership 4 Kids on Wednesday morning.
The group has a book buddy program focusing on boosting literacy engagement levels.
They partner with over 1,500 students at five Omaha Public Schools Elementaries as a way to improve reading abilities.
P4K works with the following schools:
- Belle Ryan Elementary School
- Fontenelle Elementary School
- Franklin Elementary
- Gifford Park Elementary School
- Sherman Elementary School
“We know how important it is for all of our students to be able to read and to have the opportunity to meet other people from the community and receive free books to bring home to them,” Senior Program Director Joanne Poppleton said.
The Lancers sorted, counted and stamped books that will be sent out next semester.
