OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Near 72nd and Maple Street in Omaha sits one of the largest refugee-led organizations in Nebraska, known as the International Council for Refugees and Immigrants.
“We’re one of three organizations here in Omaha that has refugee resettlement, provides extended case management, and we work in workforce development and education,” said Dekow Sagar, the council’s CEO.
“We help out parolees and asylees, people in various levels of immigration processes. ” said James Krenz. “The nonprofit provides a variety of services to make sure those coming from out of the states transition to life in a new country.
“Coming to a foreign land with no support system can be very challenging,” Sagar said.
After President-elect Donald Trump won the White House for a second time last week, Sagar said he got calls from several people concerned about how immigration policies could be impacted. Trump has promised mass deportations and a closed border.
