An Omaha company in 2019 submitted paperwork seeking U.S. visas for two foreign technology workers, indicating they would be working on the company’s “Kron Systems” project to develop new warehouse management software.
Federal prosecutors now say the Kron project was a sham, part of a ruse intended to secure visas for the workers. Charging documents say the workers never even set foot in Omaha and were instead placed with jobs in California and North Carolina.
The couple now face federal charges of visa fraud in an alleged scheme in which they helped four foreign information technology workers obtain work visas by falsely claiming where they would work. The couple then allegedly farmed the workers out to other employers, collecting tens of thousands of dollars in fees from those companies.
