TYLER, Texas (KETK) – For this year’s Butterfly Hope Luncheon, the Alzheimer’s Alliance of Smith County will be hosting Olympic Gold Medal gymnast Laurie Hernandez as their featured speaker.
East Texas gymnast heads to Olympics for Team USA
“We are thrilled to have Laurie come and speak at our luncheon this year,” said Rebecca Smith, marketing and education coordinator for the Smith County alliance. “Laurie’s beloved grandmother suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and Laurie will share her story at the event.”
Anderson won a gold and silver medal at the 2016 Olympic games in Rio. She also won the Mirror Ball trophy on Dancing with the Stars season 23, commentated Olympic gymnastics for Peacock and wrote “I Got This: To Gold and Beyond”, a New York Times best-seller.
