SACRAMENTO, Calif. — An old hotel in Sacramento is expected to become permanent supportive housing thanks to new state funding.

According to the California Department of Housing and Community Development, the Housing Authority of the County of Sacramento will be getting $17 million for the Madison Square Studios Project at 4317 Madison Avenue.

The old Super 8 hotel would eventually become 118 permanent supportive homes for people leaving homelessness. It’s expected to be completed in May of 2025.

It’s one of nine new projects that were recently given Homekey grant awards, a funding total of $130.6 million.

“We are proud to stand with local partners who are serving their communities by providing much-needed housing to alleviate homelessness. We’ll continue to support local governments who are doing the work to ensure everyone has a place to call home,” Gov. Gavin Newsom said.
