Ohio raises minimum wage effective in January [Video]

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – Ohio’s minimum wage will increase by 25 cents to $10.70 per hour.

The decision was made to help lessen the effect of inflation. Roughly 313,300 Ohioans will be either directly or indirectly affected.

According to the press release from Policy Matters Ohio, the Economic Policy Institute estimates that roughly 112,700 Ohioans that are paid less than $10.70 will have a direct wage increase. 200,600 Ohioans paid slightly above the minimum wage will likely see an increase in their wages.

The minimum wages for tipped workers will increase to $5.35. It is expected to have directed or projected indirect effects on the 97,700 Ohioans in tipped occupations.

The adjustment will help 195,600 female and 117,400 male Ohioans. The wage increase will benefit 226,100 white workers, 51,400 black workers, 16,900 Hispanic/Latine workers, 6,500 Asian workers, and 12,400 workers of “other race[s]/ethnicit[ies]”.
