COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTAP) – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced today a nine-person fire management team from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources was sent to assist with the fires in Califorinia.
According to the news release, this is in response to the request for more resources from Southern California fire managers. Governor DeWine says they have been anticipating this call for help.
The team is a part of the ODNR’s Division of Forestry. The release say the team is bringing their own protective equipment and supplies, such as hand tools, chain saws and more.
ODNR Director Mary Mertz says these crews train year-round to be ready when they are called upon. The crew has been requested for 14 days and is expected to start on Monday, working shifts that are between 14 to 16 hours long.
