Officials plan final public safety meeting ahead of DNC in Chicago NBC Chicago [Video]

Security and safety preparations are ramping up ahead of the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, with officials planning a public safety update Tuesday.

The public safety address will be the last citywide meeting ahead of the highly anticipated convention, officials said.

In addition to security inside the convention, which is set to take place next week, officials are also preparing for the potential for a large number of protesters outside the event.

“We do expect large numbers of people to show up here in Chicago, and we’ll be prepared for that,” Chicago Police Supt. Larry Snelling said in an address Monday.

Meanwhile, road closures continued as crews install security perimeter fencing around both the city’s United Center and McCormick Place.

“Residents can expect intermittent traffic impacts in the areas around both convention sites due to restricted parking, rolling street closures and possible full street closures as needed,” convention officials said in a release.
