ODOT, Hopkins Airport preparing for first snow of season [Video]

ODOT says their goal is to have primary routes back up to speed within two hours after a snow event.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — With the first snow of the season expected in our area Thursday and Friday, the Ohio Department of Transportation says they have more than 810,000 tons of salt and 4.5 million gallons of liquid deicer ready to keep the roads clear.

Locally, ODOT spokesman Brent Kovacs said they’ll have 250 trucks hitting the road of Northeast Ohio. Since the snow will be lighter and the temps not super cold, they say they’re more fixated on salting than plowing, but are prepared for when and if the rain turns to snow.

“A warmer start to the week means pavement temperatures in Ohio remain high enough to melt most of the snow on contact,” ODOT said in a press release Wednesday afternoon. “However, drivers should be extra alert on bridges and overpasses …
