NY weather update: Weather alert issued for strong thunderstorms in Delaware County Friday afternoon [Video]

The National Weather Service issued an updated report at 2:16 p.m. on Friday for strong thunderstorms until 3 p.m. for Delaware County.

Residents may experience wind gusts of up to 50 mph.

“At 2:15 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm over Walton, moving southeast at 25 mph,” states the weather service. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.”

Locations impacted by the alert include Walton, Colchester, Hamden, Harvard, Downsville, Corbett, East Branch, Trout Creek, Russell Brook Campsite and Beerston.

The weather service adds, “If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.”
