MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) – The skies may put on a show around Mid-Michigan during the nighttime hours Thursday and Friday.
The National Weather Service Space Weather Prediction Center says the sun emitted a strong solar flare, which will affect Earth. That is the third highest on a five part scale for the strength of solar flares.
The best time to see the Northern Lights in Mid-Michigan may be around midnight Thursday night and right after sunset on Friday. However, vibrant colors in the sky are possible throughout the dark hours both nights.
Clouds are possible over the skies in Mid-Michigan late Thursday night into Friday morning. Clear skies are likely across the region Friday night into Saturday morning.
The moon is at a sliver crescent phase, so it won’t provide much light that would interfere with the Northern Lights.
