WAYNE, Neb. (KTIV) – Northeast Nebraska communities are being asked to test their children’s blood levels for lead poisoning.
Parents are being urged to have their children screened for lead testing, especially if their children live in or frequent a building, built prior to 1978, according to a news release by the Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department.
Northeast Nebraska communities at risk for elevated blood lead levels include Carroll, Fordyce, Pender and Walthill. The public health department says these communities are high-risk zip codes for lead exposure in children.
“If you think your child is at risk of lead exposure, talk to your child’s doctor. A simple blood test is the only way to know if your child is exposed to lead,” said the Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department.
