North End neighborhood celebrates National Night Out [Video]

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – The North End in Springfield celebrated a “National Night Out” on Tuesday night.

“National Night Out” is an annual nationwide event that aims to strengthen relationships between local law enforcement and the community that they serve.

Tuesday’s event kicked off at 5 p.m. and wrapped up at 8 p.m.

Western Mass News spoke with Springfield Officer Jose Toledo on why he enjoys participating in events like this.

“The police department is part of the fabric of the community, its an important piece of the community and building trust with the community is an important piece as well,” said Toledo. “The police help the public and the public help the police.”

Tuesday’s event took place at Jamie Ulloa Park on Morgan Street.
