GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — While Aldea Development, a “community-driven development organization,” is currently based in the mountains of Western Honduras, it’s celebrating its 15th anniversary in Grand Haven.
The nonprofit’s website said it works with farmers seeking access to the specialty coffee market.
Aldea Development has two cafes along Michigan’s lakeshore, one in Grand Haven and one in Muskegon. Aldea Coffee works directly with coffee farmers in Honduras and Tanzania.
The president of the nonprofit is originally from Spring Lake and lives in Honduras now with his family, along with the rest of the organization’s staff.
To celebrate the nonprofit’s 15th anniversary and a $15,000 donation from a close friend of the organization, the group decided to take a polar plunge.
