Republican congressional candidate Nick Begich is voicing his opinion about the government’s decision to protect 28 million acres of land in Alaska.
On his Facebook page, Begich wrote: “Alaska must fight back with every tool it has available to restore access to this land and make it available to Alaska Native Vietnam veterans, villages, and other communities.” He also wrote he will continue to fight for Alaskans in Congress.
The Federal Bureau of Land Management decided this week that the so-called D-1 land would be protected from mining and oil and gas drilling that could have threatened wildlife and sources of food for indigenous Alaskans.
Current Congresswoman Mary Peltola issued a statement saying she and her “team are sorting through the impacts” of the D-1 lands decision.
