New women’s tackle football team in Buffalo [Video]

The Buffalo Yeti’s now join teams across the country in the Women’s Football Alliance.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — On one South Buffalo football field,  the game is a lot more than just a sport.

“Everybody is family, everybody. These are my people,” team member Shinnelle Sharpe said. 

For the Buffalo Yeti’s, the start of a football team kicked off a sisterhood.

“We have fun in practice, we have tough moments and we talk about it so we could all help each other,” team member Jae Nelson said. “That’s all it is, being a family unit and being one.” 

This newly founded family unit is also making history. The Yeti’s are now officially part of the Women’s Football Alliance, resurrecting women’s football in the Queen City. Coach and Co-Owner, Julius Davis talked about when the Buffalo All-Stars, New York’s first professional women’s tackle football team, were in the city back in the 1970’s.
