New training program helps young Staten Islanders earn Commercial Drivers License | In Class column [Video]

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Over a dozen Staten Island young adults were the first graduating class of participants in an inaugural Commercial Driver’s License Training Program.

The United Activities Unlimited (UAU) Train & Earn Program, funded by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), is helping Staten Island residents pursue well-paying and in-demand careers in the transportation industry.

“Commercial drivers are essential to New York City’s economy,” saidSteven Matteo, UAU’s executive director/CEO. “UAU is proud to be the first nonprofit organization on Staten Island to offer a commercial driver’s license training program to residents.
