New program offers immigration mental health support for North Las Vegas residents [Video]

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Many people avoid getting mental health help because of cost and availability. Now, one Las Vegas Valley program is working to lower those barriers.

‘The Immigrant Home Foundation’ now accepts applicants for free therapy to North Las Vegas residents 18 years and older.

The head of the program says there can also be cultural barriers to getting help.

Dr. Norma Ramirez is the clinical psychologist with the immigrant home. “There’s a lot of stigma to seeking help, particularly even within more underserved communities. There are issues of don’t tell anyone what’s going on, or you’re being too dramatic,” she said.

They’re also offering free evaluations to people going through the immigration process.

The deadline to sign up for the programs is August 16. You can find more details here.
