According to a new poll from the Des Moines Register and Mediacom Iowa, a majority of Iowans oppose the state’s new “fetal heartbeat” law, which bans most abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy. The poll said that 59% of Iowa residents and 69% of women are against the new law. The poll says 37% are in favor and 5% are unsure. This is the first poll conducted on the issue since the law went into effect in July.
Members of the Iowa Democratic Committee and other stakeholders held a press conference via Zoom on Monday, September 23 to discuss the poll results.
