New outdoors program launched to benefit Tennessee youth mental health [Video]

The Outdoor Leadership Club aims to bring young people and families from marginalized communities into nature.

TENNESSEE, USA — The Tennessee State Parks Conservancy and Outdoor Chattanooga have announced a new program to get Southeast Tennessee children to spend more time outdoors than ever before.

The Outdoor Leadership Club is designed to introduce youth and families in historically marginalized communities “to nature to experience the physical and mental health benefits of being outside.”

“Outdoor activities are typically a very accessible means of finding health and happiness, yet some barriers still exist, particularly in low-income communities,” said Alex Wyss, Executive Director of Tennessee State Parks Conservancy. “This program aims to bridge that gap and provide a welcoming environment for everyone in the community.”
