New Orleans Begins Carnival Season with Solemn but Hopeful Joan of Arc Parade [Video]

NEW ORLEANS — As hundreds flooded the French Quarter Monday night, many had thoughts of hope on their minds.

“I’m feeling compassion for the people who lost their lives and their families,” said Joan of Arc Project Board member Carol Lynch.

Sarah Chippe, a newcomer to the Joan of Arc 12th night festivities, said coming to the parade was important after last week’s tragedy.

“I’m just excited to show love and support for the community,” she said.

Krewe De Fluer Captain Madeline Briscoe echoed this sentiment, saying she’s happy to “welcome carnival while feeling respectful and cognizant of the loss that we all shared this week.”
