New mobile emergency operations center added in Boyd County [Video]

BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) – A new mobile emergency operations center in Boyd County has recently been completed.

Tim England, the director of Boyd County Emergency Management, says the center was an empty trailer donated from the Kentucky Department of Public Health.

They began putting it together for its new use in December.

The unit is equipped with computers, phones, radios, and network equipment, and it has its own WiFi. Six people can work in the communications area at one time.

England says they spent just less than $10,000 from donations on it, which didn’t come out of the budget.

It was used in the field for the first time at Rock the Country.

“It was a big asset to have on site,” England said. “We still have some technological improvements to make as we go forward, but it worked well for us.”
