MANKATO, MN — Nearly three months after a soft closure and an emotional community meeting, the Blue Earth Nicollet County Humane Society (BENCHS) is turning a new page with fresh leadership at the helm.
Dede Barton has been appointed as the new Executive Director, bringing more than a decade of experience in animal welfare, including her previous role with the Waseca County Animal Humane Society.
“My focus is on the animals—their health, their care, and their quality of life,” Barton stated. “I want to leave any drama behind and move forward.”
The organization has weathered significant changes in leadership and board membership. However, with BENCHS now fully operational, Barton is optimistic about restoring the shelter to its former prominence.
