New Joint Office looks to help the city secure more funding to fight crime [Video]

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – In a move aimed at tackling crime in dangerous neighborhoods Memphis and Shelby County are partnering to launch a new Joint Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement.

The Organization hopes to bring all of the other safety groups under one roof and help them get funding from the federal government.

Memphis Mayor Paul Young said the way they achieve public safety is by consolidating current city and county safety-related programming, leading to a more collaborative approach.

“These groups have been working in this community for many years and now we have an align strategy, a way for the city and county to partner together, to advocate to the federal government but also advocate to each other,” Young said.
