NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The corner of Goffe Street and Webster Street was rechristened as “Ricardo Torres Junior Way,” Saturday in honor of the fallen firefighter.

City leaders, the Fire Department, community members and family gathered at Dixwell Fire Station Engine 6 on Goffe Street, where Torres served, to show their support for the name change and the Torres family.

“These events have not only kept Ricardo’s name alive, but also brought us together. Strengthening our bond and creating a supportive community,” said Lt. William Riggott of the New Haven Fire Department.

Torres was killed in the line of duty on Valley Street more than three years ago. Efforts to rename the area began with a community petition.
