SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCSC) – A new children’s garden is breathing new life into part of Summerville’s Azalea Park.
The Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce’s 2024 Leadership Dorchester Class raised $100,000 to make the ‘Children’s Discovery Garden’ happen.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Friday and a tree was also planted in honor of Arbor Day.
You’ll also find benches that wrap around trees and a children’s amphitheater. An organizer says that the Leadership Dorchester group built it themselves. It’s meant to be a space to mimic Hutchinson Square, a vital part of the Summerville community.
This community service project was led by this year’s Leadership Dorchester class along with the Summerville Parks Foundation and Summerville Parks & Recreation.
Each year, the Leadership Dorchester class comes together and completes a service project that aims to improve the community.
