Eljo’s, a mainstay of the Charlottesville men’s clothing scene for more than seven decades, will remain in business under new ownership.
Longtime owner Myles Thurston told the News Virginian a new owner emerged in recent weeks to purchase the men’s store. The new owner, not yet identified, will take over at the store’s Shops at Milmont location, directly behind the Barracks Road Shopping Center, in mid-February.
Thurston said the new owner “bought the name, trademark and logo.” But there will be changes, he said.
“The store will have an internet presence and be active on social media,’’ Thurston said.
He anticipates the new owner will continue an Eljo’s custom of selling two to three suits to University of Virginia Darden School of Business and Law School students. The students will be given time to pay for the purchases.
