Specially trained police officers riding high speed e-motorbikes have been deployed in London to crack down on mobile phone snatchers.
The Metropolitan Police have created the elite unit to target the criminal cyclist gangs, following a surge in the number of mobile phone robberies.
Social media has been littered in recent times with numerous shocking videos of muggers swerving alongside pedestrians before grabbing their phones and making off with them at speed.
But now a select group of officers will ride five Chinese-made Surron ‘high-performance electric bikes’ purchased by the Met, which are capable of accelerating to 50mph in just 3.6 seconds.
Criminals in the capital are fond of using E-bikes and e-motorcycles because they are silent when approaching victims and help them flee the scene on pavements or routes police cars cannot travel.
