Millions of Sky TV subscribers could now face adverts while watching Netflix after the streaming service announced some major changes.
Customers still have Netflix included in their bundles, but they’ll have to pay extra if they want to avoid adverts sprinkled before and during certain films and series.
This has already been the case for new Sky subscribers since December, when Netflix replaced its Basic plan with a cheaper Standard version that includes ads.
Sky claimed ‘advertisements will run during natural plot breaks for a seamless experience, with no ads running on kids’ profiles’.
Now it’s being extended to existing Sky customers, along with all Sky Glass and Sky Stream subscribers with an Ultimate TV bundle including Netflix Basic.
Sky told customers: ‘We wanted to let you know that Netflix has discontinued their Netflix Basic plan.
‘As a result, the Netflix plan included with your Sky subscription will automatically change to Netflix Standard with ads.’
