GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Shelter staff at St. Johns Ministries say the need for shelter this year is higher than ever before.
The first two weeks of the shelter being open for overnights saw an uptick of 20% since the same time frame last year.
“If they’re unable to get into another shelter, we’re that place of last resort,” says Tony Schneider, the director of resource development and community engagement with St. Johns Ministries.
St. Johns Ministries opens its doors overnight from November 1st to April 30th every year.
“With the numbers that we’re seeing right now, they’re higher than we’ve ever seen in the past,” says Schneider.
They’re seeing high numbers right now, which shows that the need will likely only go up.
“That means the need for all of those basic need items increases too,” says Schneider.
