NDOT, NSP, LPD to kickoff impaired driving prevention campaign [Video]

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The Nebraska Department of Transportation, Nebraska State Patrol, and Lincoln Police Department launched the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign during a press conference Wednesday morning. The enforcement effort, which runs from Aug. 14 through Sept. 2, aims to increase law enforcement presence to combat impaired driving.

Nebraska State Patrol Colonel John Bolduc said troopers, deputies, and officers will be working overtime in the coming weeks. So far this year, NSP has made 821 arrests for driving under the influence, a 23% increase from this time last year.

“Every traffic fatality is a tragedy, and we know that many of them could be prevented if everyone drove sober,” Bolduc said.

NDOT Director Vicki Kramer emphasized the need for better decision-making on the roads.

“We’re seeing trends in the wrong direction, we’re seeing more fatalities, 153 people have lost their lives on our roadways this year,” …
