TULSA, Okla. — National Geographic recognized Tulsa as a hub for art, culture, and innovation.
A National Geographic author spoke about his book “Here, Not There: 100 Unexpected Travel Destinations” at a book signing at the Gathering Place on Monday and Tulsa was on the list.
He said the book signing is just his second time in Tulsa. His first trip blew him away, leading to him placing the city in his new book amongst cities from across the world.
Tulsa’s Gathering Place, Guthrie Green, the Art Deco District are all places people know and love, and now, National Geographic writer Andrew Nelson is recognizing Tulsa as a travel destination that everyone should visit.
“A lot of cities in the Heartland United States are considered ‘flyover’ cities and they’re not at all,” said Nelson. “What’s happening in Tulsa right now is really a blueprint for what’s happening in 21st Century America.”
