Nashvilles Martha OBryan Center gives out backpacks, school supplies at annual Back-to-School Bash [Video]

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Martha O’Bryan Center handed out more than 250 backpacks filled with school supplies to Nashville children and their families Friday.

The annual Back-to-School Bash also gave children an opportunity for a free haircut or braid.

American families with school-aged children are expected to spend an average of $874 dollars on clothing, shoes, school supplies and electronics prior to the new school year, according to the National Retail Federation.

“We listen to our community and we hear what they’re asking of us and the Back-to-School Bash is one of the things that they really enjoy because a lot of them can’t afford the supplies that their young people need for school,” Tasha Cartwright with the Martha O’Bryan Center, said. “We really enjoy being able to help our families so anything we can do to help them achieve, we’re all on board with it.”
