NASCAR President Defends 2025 Calendar Changes Despite Backlash [Video]

NASCAR President Steve Phelps has addressed the controversial changes to the 2025 season schedule, defending the approach despite some backlash. These adjustments reflect NASCAR’s ongoing strategy to diversify its racing calendar.

Over the past few seasons, NASCAR has reshaped its schedule to adapt to new trends and meet audience demands. Events such as the LA Clash at the Colosseum and the Chicago Street Race are recent examples of the sport introducing new aspects to the calendar.

One of the biggest changes in 2025 is holding the Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, marking NASCAR’s return to this historic track after an absence since 1971.

Furthermore, the inclusion of Mexico City as a new venue also demonstrates NASCAR’s intentions to expand its international presence. The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez will host a points-paying race—marking the first such event outside the U.S. since 1958.
