My mailbox is full: As campaign flyers inundate voters, campaigns say they work [Video]

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – For weeks, Alaskan mailboxes have been filling up with campaign flyers as Tuesday’s election approaches.

“Every day my mailbox is full of flyers,” Gwuana Thomas Sr., an Anchorage resident, said. “I know yesterday I got like six or seven.”

Even if the flyers meet the ire of some of those voters, Ira Slomski-Pritz, a partner with Ship Creek Group, a consulting firm that works on political campaigns and communications projects, says even though they might annoy some residents, mailers are an important technique to reach voters.

“It’s one of the most guaranteed ways of reaching your intended audience on a campaign,” said Slomski-Pritz, whose team is working on campaigns for ballot measures to keep ranked-choice voting, raise the minimum wage and support Democratic candidates including Rep. Maxine Dibert, Rep. Andy Josephson, Rep. Cliff Groh, Robyn Burke, Ted Eischeid and nonpartisans Ky Holland and Savannah Fletcher.
