The Denogean family hosted their 3rd Annual Toy Drive in memory of a beloved teacher killed in 2022.
PHOENIX — A Valley family is keeping the memory of a beloved teacher alive by giving back to his community through their annual toy drive.
David Denogean, 30, was shot and killed in Phoenix in 2022. His case has since gone cold, but his family hopes events like this one keep his spirit around.
“Christmas was his favorite holiday. He loved them all, but he loved Christmas,” Frank Denogean, David’s father, said.
The toy drive was hosted at the VFW Post #720 near 48th Street and Thomas Road on Monday night.
The Denogean family bought and collected more than 150 toys for kids of all ages.
“It’s all for the kids,” Frank Denogean said.
The tradition started two years ago after David’s death. It’s their way of giving back to the community that supported them through their own challenging holiday season.
“It is gratitude,” Frank Denogean said.
