MTSU finalizing plans to add hotel on campus; help train hospitality students [Video]

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV) – Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) is finalizing negotiations to build an on-campus hotel which will help train the school’s hospitality students.

The university currently has the state’s only accredited Tourism and Hospitality Management Program, according to MTSU.

The new hotel will be located at the intersection of Greenland Drive and Middle Tennessee Blvd.

”We were just overwhelmed with the response, the positive response across the board, I think as people realize the need and what a program like this really does for the community,” MTSU President Dr. Sidney A. McPhee said.

The hotel can be used by students’ families, athletic teams and other visitors. McPhee said often times during big events, the local hotels fill up and MTSU visitors have to stay outside of Rutherford County.

It’ll also provide students a place to jump-start a career in hospitality, according to McPhee.
