MSCS students, incoming superintendent return from spring break [Video]

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The Memphis-Shelby County Schools community will meet their new superintendent in April after going nearly two years without a permanent leader.

Dr. Marie Feagins will begin this new role on April 1.

The early start comes after the school board unanimously voted to end Interim Superintendent Toni Williams’ contract earlier than August.

Dr. Feagins joins MSCS from the Detroit Public Schools Community District. She was appointed by the MSCS board in February.

Throughout Spring Break, the incoming superintendent said she was able to do site visits and had breakfast at the Raleigh Community Center.

Dr. Feagins also participated in the school district’s Board’s Budget Retreat, where Board Chair Althea Green said Dr. Feagins advocated for funding for essential resources such as textbooks and classroom supplies.
