Mount Vernon Library Commons: A Model for Sustainable Public Spaces [Video]

The City of Mount Vernon, in collaboration with HKP Architects, is announcing the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Mount Vernon Library Commons (MVLC), a state-of-the-art public library and community center in this Skagit County city. The event will take place on Saturday, September 28, at 10:00 AM, marking a significant milestone for the city as it unveils the largest project in its history.

MVLC, designed by local firm HKP Architects, is one of the first publicly bid projects in the U.S. to pursue Passive House certification, one of the most stringent standards for energy efficiency and occupant comfort. The building is fully electric, aligning with the growing movement toward sustainable, eco-friendly public spaces. The centerpiece of this initiative is the country’s largest public EV charging station, housed within the new facility, providing a critical economic boost to the city as more visitors come to charge their vehicles.
