Mother charged with murder of 2-year-old who was forcibly drowned, police say [Video]

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK/Gray News) – A woman has been charged with murder after authorities in Mississippi said she intentionally drowned her 2-year-old child.

Adrienne McDevitt, the mother of 2-year-old Kelly McDevitt Jr., was booked Wednesday morning on a charge of murder.

The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office held a news conference regarding the 2-year-old’s death, which was discovered Tuesday after deputies responded to a call for a disturbance on Bolen Long Creek Road.

During the press conference, Sheriff Ward Calhoun stated it is the department’s belief that the child was forcibly drowned.

Adrienne McDevitt, the mother of 2-year-old Kelly McDevitt Jr., was booked on a charge of murder.(Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Dept.)

Adrienne McDevitt is being treated at an area hospital under the custody of the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office.

Her bond was set at $500,000.

Coroner Stella McMahan said an autopsy will be conducted on the child.
