LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK/Gray News) – A woman has been charged with murder after authorities in Mississippi said she intentionally drowned her 2-year-old child.
Adrienne McDevitt, the mother of 2-year-old Kelly McDevitt Jr., was booked Wednesday morning on a charge of murder.
The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office held a news conference regarding the 2-year-old’s death, which was discovered Tuesday after deputies responded to a call for a disturbance on Bolen Long Creek Road.
During the press conference, Sheriff Ward Calhoun stated it is the department’s belief that the child was forcibly drowned.
Adrienne McDevitt is being treated at an area hospital under the custody of the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office.
Her bond was set at $500,000.
Coroner Stella McMahan said an autopsy will be conducted on the child.
