NORMAL (25News Now) – The marching band at Morton High School is creating a dynasty, winning its third consecutive title at the Illinois State Marching Band Championships, held at Hancock Stadium in Normal.
Two other area schools finished in the top 10 in a competition that featured 42 marching bands.
The Potters won their Class 2A preliminary round, advancing to the finals with 14 other bands from all classifications.
In the finals, Morton took top honors. Prospect High School came in second and Marian Catholic was third.
The Normal Marching Band, combining Normal Community and Normal West High Schools, finished in fourth place. The Bloomington High School Marching Raiders finished eighth.
In the 2A preliminaries, Morton won Best Music, Best Visual, and Best General Effect. It’s the 19th year-in-a-row the Morton band won the 2A competition.
“The band was fired up and working hard this week,” said Andrew Empey, who is the co-director of bands. …
