The money is from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant for Disaster Recovery.
SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. — Sarasota County is expected to get additional funding from the federal government for hurricane recovery.
The more than $210 million injection would cover families, businesses and communities impacted by weather disasters that happened between 2023 and 2024.
The new funding will be part of the “Resilient SRQ” program set up in 2023 for damage from Hurricane Ian. It would focus on rebuilding and repairing homes and infrastructure, as well as finding solutions to any unmet needs from previous disasters especially in low-income communities.
“To be honest with you, this is the third time the carport has been destroyed via hurricane every time I’ve had it fixed, but I think the problem is it keeps getting damaged over and over again,” said Tammy Bogart of Sarasota.
