More Anchorage Police presence after multiple fatal pedestrian car collisions | Homepage [Video]

There have been 13 pedestrian fatalities in Anchorage this year, including the two that happened over the weekend. Just this month, there have been six total pedestrian fatalities since 2013, Anchorage city traffic data revealed.

The most recent incident was a 79-year-old man crossing at New Seward Highway and East 36th Avenue. He was hit by two cars, a Subaru and then a Toyota. He was 500 feet from the crosswalk.

A 38-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car at Northern Lights Boulevard and Minnesota Drive. She was 500 feet from the crosswalk.

The Anchorage Police Department is working on a solution.

“Identifying parts of town that these crashes happen more frequently so we can go there to do some enforcement and some education and help bring awareness to the problem,” Sgt. David Noll with the Anchorage Police Department said.
