Moorhead man charged after allegedly threatening to blow up mosque [Video]

MOORHEAD, Minn. (Valley News Live) – 40-year-old Salih Kasim has been charged with Attempted Burglary-2nd Deg-Govt, Religious, Historic or School Building-w/out Consent and Commits Crime for an incident on September 26th. The crime is a felony with a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine.

In a Facebook post at the time, Cani Sangabo wrote: “I hate to share this news, but something awful happened last night. The Moorhead Mosque was attacked around 11 pm. It seems that someone tried to burn down the mosque. Let’s keep the community in our thoughts and hope for justice to prevail. Stay safe.”

However, at the time, Moorhead Police told us they were called to the mosque for a man experiencing a mental health crisis. They told us the man appeared to be trying to break into the building and was taken to a local hospital.

According to newly-filed court documents, that’s not the whole story.
