Monroe Nichols wins Tulsa Mayoral Election, making history as the first Black mayor of the city | News [Video]

TULSA, Okla. — History was made as State Representative Monroe Nichols was elected as the 41st Mayor of Tulsa and the first Black mayor. 

Mayor-elect Nichols declared victory during a watch party Tuesday night at the Greenwood Cultural Center. 

He said in his speech that he is ready to hit the ground running and thanked the community for their support throughout his campaign. 

Nichols shared that during his campaign, he did not give into the pressures of keeping the status quo and instead shared a bold, clear and detailed vision of what Tulsa could be. 

“Now, there will no doubt be some setbacks, maybe a few missteps, but we will continue to march forward,” said Nichols. “We are not going to be in a marked time.
