MONROE, La. (KNOE) – The Monroe Firefighters Association held a press conference outside Monroe City Hall on Wednesday, Nov. 27.
The press conference was held in response to the Monroe City Council’s vote against Captain Daniel Overturf as the new Monroe fire chief.
Monroe Firefighters Association President Jeremy Hinton said the association seeks to promote unity following the vote.
Hinton said during the process of selecting a new fire chief, 11 members took the test to see if they qualified, and the union chose not to back any one candidate.
MFA President Hinton continued on to say once a decision was made, an anonymous survey sent out to union members reflected 84.84% in support of Captain Overturf.
“Fire Fighters and supporters from all districts in our city and even a past colleague of Captain Overturf’s drove in from New Orleans to stand in support and unified behind Captain Overturf,” Hinton …
