Monroe Co. corrections officers accused of allowing contraband into jail [Video]

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said the TBI helped with the investigation.

TBI said it began investigating allegations of the introduction of contraband into the Monroe County Jail back in 2022. According to a press release, TBI agents found information that identified Caleb Kirkland and Ava Hensley as the deputies responsible for bringing and/or allowing contraband to be brought into the jail.

A Monroe County grand jury indicted Kirkland and Hensley on Dec. 4. Kirkland faces one count of official misconduct. Hensley faces three counts of official misconduct.

Kirkland was released from the Monroe County Jail on his own recognizance and Hensley’s bond was set at $3,000.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said in a release that the two deputies were employed in 2022, but resigned from their positions during the investigation.

TBI said the investigation is still ongoing.
